Using The Emotional
Freedom Technique
What is the Emotional Freedom Technique?
It is like a talk therapy but can be quicker and deeper
The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a very powerful self-tapping technique developed from Thought Field Therapy by Gary Craig in the 90's.
EFT involves a combination of self acupressure tapping on certain points on the face and body whilst verbalising and focusing on the emotional issue being addressed. The tapping stimulates the meridian endpoints on the face and body and is similar to accupunture but does not involve the use of needles. EFT is often referred to as the "psychological version of acupuncture without needles" The origins of EFT come from Chinese Medicine.
'The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the bodies energy system" - Gary Craig Founder of EFT'
EFT Is A Powerful Technique That Can
-
Release and heal emotions
-
Erase limiting beliefs and negative thoughts
-
Neutralise the emotions attached to negative memories.
-
Change undesirable behaviours
Some Of The Benefits Of EFT
-
The physical tapping itself promote a calming and relaxation effect.
-
It is easy to learn the basic EFT process and therefore it can be used as a self-help technique. (However to gain most benefit from the technique, further learning and experience may be required)
"This technique can seem a little strange at first if you are new to EFT. I first came across EFT when studying for my Hypnotherapy Diploma. It's now 3 years since I discovered EFT and it is one of the most valuable skills that I have learnt. EFT can be used to assist with the many emotional challenges we face in our daily life and on more long standing emotional issues"
Suzanne Gardner-Cuthbert, (AAMET) level 2 EFT Practitioner, Founder of Mums Are Important Too

A basic description of the tapping procedure
Before the tapping commences, the emotional intensity of the issue is assessed on a scale rating of 0-10. With 10 being the most intense feeling.
After this assessment, the process commences with tapping a point on the hand whilst verbalising the problem and finishing the sentence with a self acceptance statement (I deeply and completely aspect myself). For clients who do not feel comfortable with the self acceptance, a modified statement can be used.
After the tapping process has been completed three times, points on the face and body are self tapped on whilst verbalising and tuning into the problem.
The rate of the emotional intensity is then reassessed. In most cases the original intensity of the issue will have reduced and a new scale rating is recorded. Further rounds of the tapping procedure are completed until the emotional intensity of the issue has reduced to a zero (no intensity) or is at very low level.
The above description is intended to describe a brief outline of the tapping process and does not describe the process in full detail. Futher tapping on different aspects of the problem may be needed before some relief or full relief of the emotional problem is achieved. In some cases persistence may be required EFT does have an excellent success rate when applied correctly and skillfully. However,in a small magority of cases there may be no improvement gained.
